Is living in Miami enough to get my acting career started or should I move to Los Angeles?

I’m commited to becoming an actress, but I’m not sure if staying in Miami would be a good decision with my career. Any help on this subject would be great. Thank you.

Start off in Miami and then move onto LA once you’ve got a pretty good, nice, long resume going for you!

I was a working actor for several years in LA. I moved there from Florida, where I grew up. Forget Miami. Honestly, if you are serious about being an actress, you have only two options: New York City or Los Angeles. Period. Miami is good if you’re a model, but not an actor. Unless you plan on working at a theme park, Florida is not the place to carve out your acting career. I knew people that stayed on in FL several years just to build up a resume and then move. Big mistake. In LA or NY, no one CARES about anything on your resume if it isn’t real work, and work that they can identify, and work and contacts within either city. Visit both cities and decide which one you see yourself able to live in better. While NY is a little more geared toward theatre, it’s still a place to get a film career going. NY is fast paced, cold, and not for everyone. LA isn’t for everyone either, but I find it far more inhabitable. The first thing to do when you move out there is join a great acting conservatory. There are tons of them, so do your research and even meet with some of them and feel them out. Don’t go out there expecting to be plucked from obscurity and thrown in a movie, that only happens about 4% of the time. Don’t be arrogant enough to think you don’t need training. The greatest actors are trained and still train, even when they have Oscars. Find a really competent school that can train you and that gives you the opportunity to be constantly challenged and hone your skills.
