I’ve done a little research, but i’m interested to hear from the people who live there! I am considering moving to Miami and was curious if anyone knows of any areas that I should avoid. I would also love to hear about any places that are worth the higher price! Thanks 4 any information you can provide!

Ive lived in Miami for 14 yrs.
It all depends on what kind of life you want to live..if you like the nighlife and want to be near it, look for places in Miami Beach. Anywhere from SoFI (South of Fifth) to about 20th Street on Collins is still within the ‘party district’. You will pay a lot more than if you are in the mainland though, AND many buildings dont provide parking spaces and parking anywhere in Miami Beach is a pain in the a**. But, it IS great to be within walking distance from the beach and South Florida’s greatest clubs and restaurants. Bottom line, this is where its all happenin.
Coconut Grove also has good nightlife but it is less ‘glitzy’ than Sobe and way more laid back. Its got more of a small city vibe with great bars and restaurants, lush trees everywhere. On the east side there are marinas and parks by Biscayne Bay that is great for exercising or just enjoying the view.
The Upper East Side is a new and upcoming area. I call it Miami’s version of SoHo. Great urban vibe, with boutiques along Biscayne Blvd. and nice restaurants too. Many Miami locals have gotten tired of the SoBe vibe and are going to clubs/lounges in the Wynwood/Design District/Upper East Side neighborhoods. Overall, its a cool & trendy area, but not luxurious or super safe.
Last on my list is Brickell. This is the financial district and where most of the high rises are. You should be able to find great city/loft type apartments here. Its a very convenient location because it puts it right in the middle of it all; you’re 15 minutes from SoBe, the Grove (Coconut Grove, that is), and the Wynwood/Design District/Upper East Side neighborhoods.
If you dont care much about being close to clubs, restaurants, bars, etc, then other neighborhoods worth a try are Coral Gables (high taxes though), Doral (far from everything, but cheap), Aventura, Kendall (super far from everything, but super cheapER).
Not so nice areas/areas to avoid:
Liberty City, Hialeah, Little Havana, Little Haiti, Airport area, Miami Lakes
