I plan on driving around east of I-95 and using route 1 to get to islamorda. I heard that if yiu are easty of I-95 you should be okay, is this true???

Islamorada is totally clear, No Problems.
In Miami, simply stay on major roads and again No Problem.

If you see low income housing, rundown complexes, and the (unmentionable race(s)) walking down the street with guns, baseball bats, shanks, or any weapon; you know you are in the wrong part of town.

Miami Beach is not the safest; that’s a fact! Miami: even less safe. The Florida Keys are generally safe. Both are disappointing, to say the very least. The ride along the keys may the better part (or the lesser of the evils), because of the air quality and some of the scenery (which gets old quite quickly), but that’s about it! All of it is more about the hype than anything else.
I-95 South becomes US#1 near the area of Kendall, then there are mile markers to the R. side of the road, if you need them. Our advice: Don’t waste your energy on that venture… It’s a real waste of time, gas, and money. Believe it!

I agree with the others… Islamorada is no problems, Miami is big problem. I stay away from there, only see it on my way down to the keys.
