They’re about 45/60+ minutes apart. Definitely don’t wanna do a cab.

A cab will cost you about $85.00,+ tip each way. You can rent a car, but a car is useless in SoBe & you’ll have to pay $15.00 a day in a city lot to store it while you are paying the rental charge per day.

Unfortunately FLL does not have a single service shuttle that picks up at all arrivals all the time with uniform rates. If you do a search for “FLL Airport transportation” you get to the web sites for half a dozen or more shuttle services that want you to call ahead & reserve. Rates vary but you should be able to get a rate of about $35.00+ a person or maybe less for more than one person traveling together. “Go-Express” formerly Tri-County Airport express has ride share vans outside arrivals & advertises SoBe for about $21.00. But you have to wait until one going your way fills up. Look for the guy with the green letters on the white shirt outside arrivals. Their web site is:

    The Tri-Rail option:

The Tri Rail service is a good option if you’re on a tight budget [About $3.00 a person each way]& have no more than 3 bags per person & have the time and the right timing. You pick up the free Tri-rail shuttle bus at the city bus stop which is outside to the left of arrivals at each terminal. They take you to the Dania Beach Tri Rail station where you buy tickets & board for the Tri Rail. Take Tri-rail south to the MetroRail transfer station in Miami. There get on the MetroRail (another train) [$1.50 person] and then take that to the Government Center Station in Downtown Miami. Once you’re there a cab will run about $15-$20. OR take a Miami Dade County Bus downstairs. [At downtown station, before you leave the Metro-Rail platform buy a $.50 bus transfer -- otherwise the fare is $1.50] Bus Routes C or K Both run North on Washington Ave. which should get you close to your hotel. There’s a large info booth just off the escalator of the metro-rail station which has route maps. Ask where to get your particular bus.

Tri-rail is a commuter line that runs on the half hour morning & afternoon; hour during mid-day; every two hours on weekends & not at all from about 10PM to 5AM.
