How busy is Miami Beach this time of year?

I’m going to be in Miami Beach during the 3 week of January. I know the beach is one of the busiest. I just want to know what to expect.

Hi Nate
Like you said, the beach (as we locals call it) is pretty busy year-round. You might get lucky, since it’s the beginning of the year and the economy is rather tight at the moment, but don’t ever expect it to be empty. If you are staying on Ocean Drive, or fairly close anyway, you’d want to park your car (or not rent one at all) and walk everywhere. Trust me on that one, everything you need will be within walking distance. At most, rent a scooter if you are not keen on walking, so you can still enjoy the sun and weather while skipping the blisters and sore feet. Expect to see people walking 24/7, the beach is probably the only place in Miami where people actually get off their fat bums and populate the sidewalks. Expect shops to be open til 10 pm or later. Expect gas to be VERY expensive. Expect to see all kinds of people. Expect to have the time of your life, even though, I will tell you this, no floridian would ever go in the water with the temperatures we are having today!!! (mid 60s)

Busy, sure…
This New Years it wasn’t even busy at all. Tourism is down.

it shouldn’t be as bad as the summer.
normally the worst time of year is spring break (mid March- April)
during July. if it is bad you can always drive towards the keys.
