How long will it take for the Miami Dolphins to be a contender again?

SHO asked:

Bill Parcells is basically bringing the Dallas Cowboys over (haha) to Miami… how long will it take for Miami to not only get back into the idea of playoff contention, but for them to win their first playoff game in forever?

About as long as it will take the mexicans to take over America. 4-5 years.

More than likely a year or two, Bill Parcells is really good and an excellent Football mind. The Miami Dolphins will be back to form very soon I am sure!

Well, it took him 4 years to grow the Cowboys…he left a year too early, maybe he could have pushed Dallas into the Superbowl…but as a Dallas hater, I am glad he left.

That franchise is at the bottom…Which does have an upside, anything better than 1 win is an improvement.

I think next year they win 4-6 games. The next year, they might go 8-8 with an outside chance at the Playoffs…after that, well, who knows…could go all the way, or back to being 1-15.

I would say they get back to the playoffs in the 3rd year of the Parcells era.

hopefully in the next couple years.
they need good draft picks and smart trades.

    3-5 years.
To be a contender they have to catch up with the Jets and the Pats in their divisions. That teams needs to completely blow itself up. The only piece it currently has is Ronnie Brown and he’ll more than likely be at the end of his career when the ‘fins get good again. There’s a slight chance that Parcells may trade Ronnie Brown at some point either for draft picks or younger players down the road.

Parcells needs to build that coaching staff up and tweak it. They need a complete new line. They’ll most likely stick with the 3-4 defense which will require a whole new DL for them. Their LB corps is way too old to be highly effective and their ILBs aren’t quite what you want in the 3-4. Their CBs and Ss need upgraded (that’s the entire defense). They need to see if Beck is going to develop into the QB they want. They need some receivers for him too.

The problem with the Dolphins was all the draft picks they gave away. The ones they did pick seem to have busted out and the rest of the team is ancient. Parcells’ scouting abilities was suspect with the Cowboys though. Hopefully for Miami fans, getting rid of the coaching duities will help Bill focus on his scouting duities a little more.

I’m going to say 2 years. Two recent examples that support this theory are this seasons Green Bay Packers (after going 4-12 two seasons ago) and the 2003 Carolina Panthers that reached the Super Bowl after going 1-15 two seasons before the 2003 season.

With Parcells at the helm, I’d say 2 - 3 yrs. thats about right. he did it with the Pats, tried with the jets and now look at the mess in DallAss.

it would be possible for them to be a playoff contender next season, though unlikely. teams can go from good to bad and bad to good in one season. i.e. the Chicago bears 13-3 on season and 3-13 the next. it works both ways.

They’ll be 9-7 next year. They actually have a good core of veterans, although old, they can still play. Parcell’s will clean up what Nick Saban destroyed. They will be good again within 2 years.

If you think about it….They played some good games with 2nd, 3rd and even 4th stringers. They had a major injury problem this last year. Losing pretty much half of their team.

    Playoffs 2009!!! GO DOLPHINS!!!!!!

it will take an act of God, and for them to wise up and get rid of Daunte Culpepper.

I think they’ll be back in the playoffs in 2 to 3 years. It is going to take alot to get this team where it wants to be.They need to see first if Beck is going to be their guy or if Trent Green is going to come back one more time. They are going to have to make wise draft, free agency, and trade decisions. The next thing to do is draft Glenn Dorsey No.1, because he is the type of player that can turn around a team on his own. The next thing to do would be to get some help in the secondary followed by signing a playmaking receiver, Randy Moss or Bernard Berrian could fill in this hole.

3 years…..after they get a decent QB an offensive line and maybe another running back….. oh yeah and a halfway decent secondary and corners……3 years
